SV Estrellita 5.10b is SOLD

wauquiez_ad (2)((UPDATE: Estrellita has been sold.))

The one, the only, SV Estrellita 5.10b is for sale. Details and contact information can be found here at DBY Yachts.

This is a happy time and a sad time at the same time. We are excited about our plans and the successful completion of our cruise and we are very sad to say so long to our beautiful girl.

The true hero of our voyage has always been and will always be Estrellita.

I will write more eventually about our reasons for completing our voyage, but the short version is that all is well, that we will be returning to Canada and to work, that this blog will over time reconfigure back to its namesake (The Giddyup Plan) and that our vagabonding days are on pause, not over.

  4. So sad - the day I have to sell my boat is a day I dread! But if I sailed to Australia I probably wouldn't want to sail to windward all the way back to Seattle either.

Btw, the image ratio (width/height) on the linedrawing24.jpg above is wrong, which is funny because it makes your boat look super beamy and super short.

    1. Thanks Patrick!

The blog template does weird things with photos someyimes in different viewers. I *think* if you click on the photo to view it large it will look normal. Imhavent figured out how to fix that.

  5. Btw I noticed you have a Hydrovane (which the brokerage listing doesn't mention). How much did you use that vs the electric autopilot? Do you think a wind autopilot is useful inshore or only offshore?

    1. We are going to review the Hydrovane shortly (which we love) but I would say we use it coastally-offshore and offshore- offshore but not inshore. We use our electric autopilot. I love having both.

  8. Best of luck in the sale. She's definitely proven her worth!

Being back home in Canada aint so bad (esp. BC), especially if you like Winter sports! 😉 (We're loving Whistler; TONS of jobs, though none academic.)

  10. Did I read correctly? Are you headed to Saskatchewan? (Job?) Yes, you'll need a kite for any sort of skiing (or a snowmobile... or horse...)

  12. Bravo and Thanks! After following Fiji to NC to Australia in real-time I went to the beginning in the Backlog. Please know the lasting appreciation of your blogs. I stopped today at "How do you know if you have caught a fish?" because this makes one day, just as it was for you at the time!

  17. Noooo... I just finished all your videos and loved them so much I thought I'd read the blog. Now you're leaving. I feel like I've lost friends and we don't even know each other :)
I hope you are successful and enjoy being back in Canada (I'm in Ottawa). I bought a S&S Hughs 38 a couple of years ago and was planning on doing something similar but I was told the kids weren't ready for that. I'm looking at doing it again so the numbers portions of the blog you did were great. I didn't even calculate the fee for visa's and such.
I'd love to see more like that if you are ever searching for more blog subjects. I can't believe you did this for 5 years. How do you plan for that? Roughly, how much do you think, on average, a year at sea costs? I'd love to hear but if this is too personal a question obviously just ignore me. I've never been good at knowing where lines are.
Thanks for sharing your adventure. It is much appreciated.
